Abstract
Trying to meet the contrasting requirements for environmental protection and market requirements for the improvement of vehicle performances, the automotive industry has over the past few years developed a number of technical solutions facing fuel manufacturers with increasingly stringent quality requirements.
The new designs of gasoline engines may today be found on the local market to a considerable extent, while the implementation of legal regulations limiting the permissible emission of exhaust gases from passenger vehicles shall have an additional impact on the newly manufactured vehicles share increase trend.
The paper provides a review of the new automobile technology, as well as the mutual impact of the new gasoline engine designs and motor gasoline quality. In order to define the need to change the quality of motor gasolines, we have analyzed the structure of the vehicle pool in Croatia. We have also provided a review of the legal regulations impacting the motor gasoline quality requirements.
