Sažetak

It was already known, and known much better after the Split edition of De institutione and Evangelistary, how many saintly examples Marulić quotes from medieval Franciscan hagiography, mainly, of course, from the life of St Francisof Assisi, whom he mentions frequently with a special sensitivity. Although Professor Glavičić has endeavoured to mention all these loca very carefully, the current writer thinks it might be possible to do more and better, not only because Franciscan hagiography is a rich source of Marulić, with a few minor doubts, but also because many Franciscan historians, starting in the 16th century, were to cite Marulić as their source. This exchange was to go on later, although the research detailed here stops at about 1650. We think the matter deserves to be presented, because it is a contribution to a better understanding of Marulić’s influence, and not only of his sources. It would seem that this area has been in adequately researched to date, the more so if the research spreads to the other orders, such as the monastic orders, and the Dominicans, or Marulić’s more or less specific theological sources. The paper is divided into three parts: 1, Franciscan hagiographic sources in Marulić in general; 2, Marulić in Franciscan hagiography up to the mid-17th century (four major Franciscan historians used him), and 3, some minor questions about the subject (for example, Marulić and the monks, the direct and indirect use of sources, the question of the late canonisation of St. Bonaventura, Marulić between Thomist Aristotelianism and Neo-Platonism, Marulić and the heretics of his time (particularly in the Evangelistary), Marulić’s first inclination towards eremitism and then his sound stance towards the apostolic life.
