Philosophical-theological View on Human Sexuality and Sexual Education
Luka Tomašević
; Katolički bogoslovni fakultet, Sveučilište u Splitu
Sažetak
The topic of this work is human sexuality which today’s
theology understands as a way of our existence. As such it is a
structural dimension of person and a sign and point of opening,
encounter, dialogue, communication and unity among persons.
Sexuality is a vital strength that encompasses causes and
influences every personal act in every moment of life and does
not take effect in one field or time period, but represents the
soul and essence of life.
In the second part the author investigates the philosophical
attitudes about human sexuality through history. In the world
of Christian culture sexuality has been mainly defined after its
main aim, i.e. reproduction, and people have used it to satisfy
sexual passion.
In the third part the author briefly introduces us to the
history of sexual education and points out that the Catholic
Church has also entered into dialogue with modern educational
sciences after II. Vatican Council and that it fosters and promotes
sexual education in its postulates and documents and speaks
about sexuality as about “truth and significance".
In the fourth part the author speaks about the basic
education, i.e. about the education of moral feeling and
affectivity. To achieve full sexual education it is necessary to
develop moral feeling which is threefold: feeling for ethical life,
feeling for freedom and feeling for responsibility.
