Sažetak

New register of all manors and settlements in the area
that was being simultaneously rearranged in Slavonia district
by founding the Požega, Srijem and spatially the largest
Virovitica districts was made by the end of 1745 and
beginning of 1746. The purpose of the register was to determine
the exact number of estates in each settlements and
manors as a whole in order to determine a total tax sum.
Apart from the Valpovo market town, the manor
consisted of 33 villages and settlements with 220 estates
whose lieges (serfs) had to pay 4810 forints tax annually.
However, the number of serf estates was subject to sudden
changes since a serf could freely leave the estate and go
somewhere else where life and working conditions were
allegedly better. After al,l some lords of the manor publicly
urged the rural population to settle on waste estates within
manor where in the first three years they would be free of
paying taxes until their households grow stronger.
The manor and the Valpovo market town register is
written in Latin as it was usual then. The first and last names
of people were written very inconsistently, in a way a
census-taker had actually heard them and he considered a
group of certain letters to be very close to pronunciation. In
the translation from Latin the list contained data about the
household quantity, sorts and quantities of movables and
real estates, the number of the married and single brothers
and sons. There was also a list of widows possessing some
estate.
Next to the name one would note a son or a son-in-law
with the name of the mentioned person.
