Abstract
By systematizing the episcopal library and marking
the 170th anniversary of the archiepiscopal orphanage,
new traces have been found in representing orphanotrophic
libraries, the oldest Jesuit, later pupils’ and superior’s one.
Holdings and catalogues have been analysed in the article
but it also follows a book moving to the specific places. The
Jesuit library of the Požega college is one of the oldest in
Croatia and due to its value it ranks among libraries as the
second right behind the Jesuit library of the Zagreb college.
The paper also analyses the pupils’ libraries of the Požega
orphanotrophy, which is rather unknown and due to
the found catalogues it is confirmed to be a very well-organized
library that had its rules and regulations.
Ex libris on particular books proves an existence of
the superior’s libraries because the orphanotrophy headmaster-
prefects as very educated people and erudites had
their own libraries.
All the books that had been situated in the community
over centuries, are of great significance for work and mission
that this institution has been carrying out. It is a commitment
for us to professionally systematize all existing
books in the years to come no matter of their whereabouts
in order to protect these holdings and make them available.
