Sažetak

This in vitro study evaluated the ability of a commercial amalgam bond liner to reduce microleakage between amalgam restorations and tooth structure. On the occlusal surface of 24 extracted human third molars, a conventional class I cavity was prepared. The teeth were randomly divided into two groups. Cavity walls of the samples in the first group were covered with two layers of Amalgam liner before the amalgam was packed into the cavity. In the second group, the cavities were filled with amalgam alone. After 7 days in 0.9% saline at 37 °C, the samples were subjected to thermal stress o f300 thermocycles in a bath between 0 °C and 55 °C. Then the teeth were immersed into 1 % methylene blue for 7 days. The teeth were sectioned in a bucco-lingual direction through restorations and examined by direct measurement of methylene blue penetration between the amalgam and cavity walls. Amalgam fillings prepared with the amalgam liner showed statistically significantly less dye penetration (p<0.05) as compared to those without the liner.
