Sažetak

By using qualitative technique - participating observation, which he used to implement
both during his professional work and as a tourist - but being in both his roles a true nature-
lover who adored a virgin landscape and the one ennobled with measure - the author
presents in ten >>p ictures« all the diversity of natural, geographical, and socio-cultural
characteristics of Croatian islands. His attention is directed towards the transformations
caused by the development of tourism, in the first place the mass tourism, on the islands.
And here he observed both the changes in space (landscape) and those that occurred in
the values system and the lifestyle of the islanders. The scientific professional framework
and the interpretation key of this paper are based upon two disciplines: physical planning
and tourism.
The ten >>pictureS<< present the Croatian islands from island Krk on the n01th to island Mljet
on the south, and it encompass 12 islands and 22 tourist localities. The time span of the
>>pictures« is 45 years. Some of the places were more frequently observed, like for example
the southern pan of island Hvar (six tourist seasons). The spatial arrangement and the
time distribution of the observations are shown in two parallel figures.
Each >>picture« contains the description of the obsetvation and the belonging valuation
commentary, which prove the introducting thesis that the Croatian islands are not the example
of the ideal homogenus region, bat that each island, and even the particular pans
of bigger islands should be evaluated separately and carefully. The collected data tell us
much more then the above mentioned, so they can serve as a base for future researches.
The additional value of this work lies in the way the author has resolved the conflict between
his two roles: a tourism planner and a user of the tourist services - a tourist.
