Sažetak

In the 19th century the connections and the cooperation between the Czech and Croatian intellectuals were very intensive. In the Czech lands the public was informed about these contacts through the journal propagating national revival called Kvety, which also referred about the activities of Metel Ožegović in Varaždin, where he founded one of the first national reading rooms in Croatia.
More intensive contacts maintained the Cro¬atian intellectuals and politicians with the Slovak political milieu within the Hungarian kingdom.
The Croatian and Slovak national revival shares common parallels. Several Slovak personalities as bishop Stefan Moyses played important role in the Croatian national revival as well as seve¬ral Croatian politicians influenced the Slovak national movement and politics. One of these pe-rsonalities was baron Metel Ožegović, who was a parliamentarian in the Hungarian council, where he maintained not only political, but also personal close friendship with Slovak politicians defending the Slovak national interests. After his moving to ministry to Vienna, baron Ožegović supported the Slovak emancipation politics and culture continuously. Together with bishop Josip Juraj Strossmayer he was one of the founding members and supporters of Matica slovenska.
