Sažetak

Endoscopic u ltrasonography (EUS) i s a relatively new technique combining the use of video endoscopes with high frequency ultrasound probes. This method is highly accurate and useful in the diagnosis and staging of gastrointestinal malignancies, and in the characterisation of subepithelial gut lesions and pancreaticobiliary disorders. In recent years, a wide variety of endosonographically guided therapeutic options has been developed: block and neurolysis of celiac ganglia, drainage of pancreatic pseudocysts and abscesses with different localisations (from mediastinum to spleen), pancreaticogastrostomy, hepaticogastrostomy and EUS guided gallbladder drainage. Local pancreatic tumour therapy and sclerotherapy of cystic pancreatic tumours are still in experimental phase. A number of current evidence based diagnostic and therapeutic options of endoscopic ultrasonography is presented and discussed in this article.
