Sažetak

Effects of orthodontic anomalies on the frequency of caries were
studied in a sample of 322 children from three Zagreb kindergartens during a three-year period. The children were examined at 12-month intervals. In total, 599 examinations (227 in eugnathic and 322 in dysgnathic children) were performed. Results of the study, presented according to age and sex, separately for the groups of eugnathic and dysgnathic children, pointed to the following: — No significant differences were found in the frequency of caries between the groups of eugnathic and dysgnathic children (caries index was slightly higher in the group of eugnathic children);— No significant differences were observed in the frequency of caries between boys and girls (caries index was slightly higher in youngerboys and in older girls);
— Age of the subjects was the only relevant factor increasing the frequency of caries (a marked increase in the frequency of caries was observed to occur with age in both eugnathic and dysgnathic children of both sexes).
