About Ruđer Bošković and His Proposal of Geodetic School Foundation

Sažetak
Ruđer Josip Bošković was born in Dubrovnik in 1711. On the occasion of the 300th anniversary of his birth, the Croatian Parliament proclaimed 2011th "Year of Ruđer Bošković" in Croatia. This paper is a small contribution to the celebration of the anniversary. It gives an overview of his almost unknown proposal of geodetic school foundation. Bošković’s proposal remained in manuscript in Italian until 1931 when it was published by Vladimir Varićak in the transcript in Italian. Since this text could understand relatively few persons, it is not surprising that this Bošković's manuscript has been cited only once. In this paper, with a brief Boscovich’s biography, we bring for the first time faximile of his proposal of geodetic school foundation and its translation into Croatian language.
