Sažetak
GNSS technology and geographic information systems (GIS) are the backbone of traffic management and modernization at seaport container terminals. One of the most important properties of GNSS-enabled systems is the ability of tracking container arrivals and their docking at the terminal. At the same time, GIS handles all of the spatial information regarding the location and contents of containers, which both speeds up container transport and docking, and increases the seaport security. These aspects of the GNSS and GIS technologies make them desirable investments in seaports, required for providing high quality service. This article (paper/contribution) presents systems for managing container terminals in seaports, along with a review of more recent technologies (e.g., RFID), which, combined with the GNSS and GIS, improve the performance of entire container terminal systems. In addition, the implementation of these systems in Europe's largest seaport, Rotterdam, is discussed.
