Sažetak
In the attempt to recover from the economic crisis the European Union is trying to reform the member states economy in the way that the European society becomes more sustainable, without barriers and with competent inhabitants. In order to reach this goal the role of member states education systems is irreplaceable and in particular adult education systems. European Union Education policy inevitably leads to changes in the functioning of the adult education system which also results in changes in the work of adult education professionals. This article analysis the role of adult education systems in the implementation of the Europe 2020 Strategy, the Copenhagen process and similar initiatives, on the base of which the conclusions are made about the necessary competences of the adult education professionals so that they could contribute to the successful European education policy implementation.
