Sažetak

The occurrence of extra rooted teeth (radix entomolaris and paramolaris) in mandibular first (M1) and second (M2) molars was examined in this investigation. In M1 we found radix entomolaris in 3.85% (17 from 442) and in M2 in 0.50% (2 from 402) of the examined teeth. Radix paramolaris was found only in one case in M2. Supernumerary roots are mostly placed disto-lingually (14 from 19) on both sides of the mandible. The rate of occurrence is higher in Croatia than in some European countries settled by Caucasians only. It may be connected with intermarriages between Hungarians (Mongoloides) and Croatians (Caucasians) which was taking place during the centuries as a consequence of historical events.
