Sažetak

In a group of 120 examinees (50 patients with chronic kidney disease
— Dg. Pyelonephritis chr., 50 with uremia and 20 control subjects)
the microbiologic flora of the dental plaque on smooth tooth surfaces
has been determined. Gram-positive bacteria were identified according to the method of Cowan and Steel and gram-negative bacteria according to Edwards and Ewing. In all three groups, streptococci were dominant in the microflora of the dentobacterial plaque, and among the streptococci Streptococcus mitis was the most numerous. The highest percentage of Streptococcus mutans was found in the group of patients with chronic renal disease (20%), while Streptococcus mitis was isolated in the highest percentage in uremic subjects (61.10/o). The uremics also had the highest percentage of Candida. The uniformity of the streptococcal flora in the uremic patients could be ascribed to the action of ammonia, i.e. to a change in pH and the high sensitivity of microorganisms to such changes.
