Sažetak
Supporters are essential and comparatively simple construction elements of a contemporary partial prosthesis. As the correct production of the supporter and its bearing is not given enough attention, their function is discredited. The form and the construction of the supporter determine its function. It is necessary to prepare adequately the tooth, precisely the crown, and to shape the bearing properly, in order to get a sufficient space for thickness and width. In this way the supporter becomes 1. resistant to fracture, 2. it does not hamper occlusion and articulation and 3. the load is directed toward
the longitudinal axis of the tooth (axially). A sufficiently dimensioned supporter is 2—3 mm wide, 1.5—2 mm thick and max. 2.5 mm long. The supporter space in the crown should be enlarged for 1 mm to fit the metal thickness and the cement layer. These dimensions are appropriate for the vital tooth with the average pulp topography, especially if the patient is in advanced age. In the majority of cases the bearing has oval shape (spoon-like) which is suitably made by a circular diamond drill with 2 mm diameter enabling the assessment of the shaped bearing thickness in wax. Then the central part of the bearing is deepened with a smaller circular drill (1 mm diameter) in order to obtain the axial load of the tooth. Careful production of the bearing is a prerequisite for a long-term success of partial prosthesis.
