Sažetak

The sensitivity of dentin presents a major problem in therapeutic stomatology. The physiology and pathology of the onset of pain affecting the dentin and the tooth is discussed in the introduction. The authors go on to describe the well known ways of transport of pain to the brain and consider the theories of dentin and pulp sensitivity. They mention that some of the older authors maintained that there was no dentin sensitivity while today a series of theories exist and proof has been obtained about the manner of sensitivity transport and histological confirmation has been found of sensitive fibres in the dentin. General anaesthesia and local injection anaesthesia have up to this day been the only solutions to prevent pain in therapeutic stomatology, but these are not applicable in all cases (children, cardiovascular patients and fear on injection anaesthesia). The apparatus for electroanaesthesia might be applied in these cases. The authors have investigated the efficacy of the electroanasthesia apparatus Eloz-1 on material consisting of 255 teeth divided into three age groups and the results obtained were satisfactory. Their conclusion is that electroanaesthesia is applicable and almost entirely satisfactory, primarily in young people who react well to this method and particularly in paedodontics since there is a deeply inherent fear of local injection anaesthesia in children while they react extremely well to electroanaesthesia. In older people where the dentine canals have undergone sclerosis, the painful sensation is weaker and the same applies to electro-anaesthesia.
