Sažetak
A relationship between hygiene and fixed prosthesis was studied in a sample consisting of 50 subjects. The state of gingiva, the amount and site of plaque accumulation, and calculus deposition were assessed by means of periodontal indices for the plaque and gingival state determinations according to Loe and Sillness, supplemented by clinical observations. The results obtained have shown that there is no significant causal relationship between the duration of work and clinical deterioration of the state of gingiva, i.e. that a prolonged life of the prosthetic replacement need not cause any pathological alterations to marginal gingiva provided the patient keeping to optimal hygienic procedures. Furthermore, wherever present, the plaque is interdentally deposited, i.e. between the plastic facets and in the fissures of more pronounced occlusal crown surfaces. Atthe same time, the results have indicated the plaque accumulation in some
cases to be greater on natural teeth than on the artificial structures.
Thus, we can conclude that a properly manufactured fixed construction may function well for quite a long period of time, even on a reduced but treated foundation. Implementing the plan of therapy together with a periodontolog ist, a prosthetist can expect a better prognostic evaluation of the maintenance and preservation of the biological foundation, and a prolonged usability of the fixed construction in a hygienically clean /mouth.
