Sažetak
Sri Mataji Nirmala Devi was born in 1923 in the town Chindwara/Chindawada near Nagpur in Central India in a very respectable Christian family. Besides Christianity, the family was also dedicated to the Indian movement for independence from British colonialism under the leadership of Gandhi and it had an important role in this movement. Sri Nirmala Devi spent school holidays without parents in Gandhi’s Ashram, as they were frequently abused by the British and put in prison. Her mother was the first woman in India who finished the study of mathematics which she taught at Ferguson College, and she also became known for research in the field of algebraic reduction. Her father, Raul Prasad Salve, was a prominent lawyer and very learned man. He is said to have spoken fourteen languages and translated Koran in marathi bhasha. In his work he stood for the liberation of India and also for the tolerance towards diversity of religious affiliation and he fought for the abolition of the caste system.
