Sažetak

Abstract
During metalworking operations through particle separation, the fluid for cooling and lubrication is exposed to continuous contamination. These are primarily metal and tool particles, and also “tramp” oil (from slideways; hydraulic, anticorrosion oils, etc.). Microorganism growth and water quality for emulsion mixing causes additional problems. The contamination considerably reduces the emulsion’s service life, increases material and waste disposal costs, and also causes production standstills. That is why it needs to be eliminated through maintenance: Corrective, predictive, or preventive intervention. The choice of the system for the supply of metalworking machines with fluid is of importance for extending the emulsion’s service life. Machines with a central system have twice longer emulsion service life than individual systems, and without any special care. The emulsion’s service life may be extended by building in elements such as walls, centrifuges, separators, filters, skimmers, and the like.
Lubricant manufacturers play an important role in extending the fluid’s service life. This primarily concerns the production of fluids with as high stability as possible, but also recommendations for the choice of a fluid with higher biostability, system cleaning, emulsion maintenance during application, and the care for people, machinery and plant. The extension of the service life of cooling and lubricating fluids increases productivity, protects the environment, and finally improves overall fluid management.
The paper presents the results of applying machines for preventive maintenance of working emulsions. The test results of working emulsion properties have shown that contamination may successfully be removed and the emulsion’s service life extended.
