Histological study of chronical inflammation in periapical region

Sažetak

A histological study was performed on 213 cases with chronical processes in the periapical region, as to the proliferation of epithelial cell rests of Mallassez. The results showed that epithelial proliferation was present in 74 cases (34,7%), of these 14 had cystica! formations in the development stage. Only in one case were cell rests found with no tendency of proliferating. The finding were frequentative in the periapical region of the upper lateral incizers with chronical inflammtion. Chronical periapical processes were commonly observed in the age group of 21 to 30 years of age. Statistical data shows that there is less epithelial proliferation in patients under 20 years of age, while im the lower age groups there is a reciprocal relationship in the cyst — granuloma distribution.
