Clinical testing of the methods of direct pulp capping

Sažetak
In the course of a two-year period 256 direct pulp cappings were carried out in parens of the 15—57 age group, using zinc oxide and aetheroleum caryophillorum (control group) and a mixture of zinc oxide, dentin powder and aetheroleum caryophillorum (experimental group). The dentin powder was obtained from extracted teeht, sterilized for 3 hours by the dry sterilization process at a temperature of 90° C. For every capping zinc oxide and dentin powder was taken in the proportion I : 1 and a drop of aetheroleum caryophillorum was added. This mixture was applied to the open pulp without enlarging the defect and without pressureClinical testing of the condition of the dental pulp in intervals from one month to two years in the experimental group or 58 cases showed 47 cases to have been successful while in the control group of 107 cases of direct pulp capping 76 were successful. The statistical investigation of the material by means of the X2 test prompted us to conclude that the mixture of zinc oxide, dentin powder and aetheroleum caryophillorum as an agent for direct capping did not show any advantages over the same mixture without the addition of dentin. Howerer, this mixture showed better results compared with the results obtained in the older age groups of the control group (polygon of relative incidence). It would be necessary to carry out a large number of direct pulp cappings in older age group to establish to what extent dentin powder accelerates calcification which is insufficient in older people and then study the corresponding histopathologic finding.
