Sažetak

Abstract
It is Croatia’s strategic goal to join the European developments and trends in this part of its economic activity as well – particularly in EU, in order to thereby facilitate its position in the future process of becoming an EU member. For this reason, as well as in order to advance its competitiveness on its wider gravitational market, Croatian refineries must comply with quality requirements set by their products’ directives and conventions, especially when it comes to fuels.
In the introductory presentations and discussions of this year’s symposium, fuel quality development trends, as well as Croatian refineries’ technological possibilities, have been elaborated in some detail. The discussions also included technological options (reconstruction and/or construction of new process units) enabling the achievement of future European fuel specifications with minimal and gradual investments. The discussions provided a number of expert technically and economically grounded proposals as to the direction that the oil processing development in Croatia should adopt.
