Sažetak
In order to follow-up the changes developing in the postextraction period the acticity of the masseter and temporalis muscle was bi laterally registered by (means of electromyography after the extraction of the first or second premolar in the right lower quadrant in both jaws.Electromygraphic registration was carried out with a polygraph, type GRASS, model I lie. A group of eleven men aged from 20 to 35 years was studied. The state of physiological rest and central occlusion was recorded by means of cutaneous electrodes within a period of 12 days, on the first, third seventh and twelfth day.
In the results, the registered state of physiological rest demonstrated no major difference or change during the four EMG recordings. However, the registered central occlusion allowed us to observe — in all examined subjects — major changes in the extent of amplitude and the sum of action potentional of both temporalis and masseter muscles. The authors conclude on basis of results and discussions that the extraction of teeth in the lateral row affect the temporalis and masseter muscles during the post extraction period in the sense ob reducing their action potential, that lowest values in the action potential are registered on the third day after extraxtion owing to the
exercising of the conditional reflex which prevents irritation of the impaired area.
