Wood – material in conformity with nature

Sažetak

The paper gives a description of wood as a construction material. The representation of timber construction in Croatia, Slovenia and Austria has been given and compared. The research results which present the advantage of the frame type of wooden structure are given. Protection measures are presented as the fire and moisture protection. An important factor for the general use of wood as a construction material is promotion, which helps increase awareness regarding environmental and energy features of the material. Thus, a necessary component is systematic training of engineers, architects and the interested public. Accent is placed on the need to reduce CO2 emissions and lower energy consumption. Thereby, wood should take its place in the future of low-energy buildings construction.
