Sažetak

The purpose of the study was to examine the dimensions of perfectionism correlation and social support with anxiety and depression, as well as to determine the contributions of dimensions of perfectionism and social support to anxiety and depression in university students. The study was conducted on a sample of 187
students attending two faculties in Osijek. During class, participants completed the Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale, Social Support Appraisal Scale, Beck’s Anxiety Inventory and Beck’s Depression
Inventory. The results have shown that all of the perfectionism dimensions are significantly positively correlated with anxiety, while social support showed no significant correlations. All of the perfectionism dimensions, except organization, and support from family, friends and faculty members were significantly correlated with depression. Furthermore, the results have shown that concern over mistakes, doubts about actions and organization predicted higher anxiety. With regard to depression, concerns over mistakes, doubts about actions, parental pressure predicted higher levels, while support from friends and faculty members predicted lower levels of depression. The results are in accordance with data that indicate the harmful effects of maladaptive perfectionism on mental health.
