Education of experts in preservation of the written heritage

Abstract

In Croatia there are no schools for education of conservators-restorers in the field of preservation of the written heritage. The author points out the problems which appear in practical work because of that fact. She also emphasizes the necessity of undertaking something urgently, but not hasty. She describes the training of a new generation of professionals at the Central laboratory for conservation and restoration of the Croatian State Archives in Zagreb, and suggests the ways how to organize the aducation which has to be on university level. She made this proposal on the basis of her own long-time experience in conservation and restoration of the written heritage and her knowledge about the situation in the same field in other countries.
