Web sites of university libraries : library services and professional ethics

Sažetak
The paper presents some aspects of new library services provided through the web site. Librarians should use web sites in order to offer online the traditional library services, and to provide access to the library’s own digital resources and also to the remote information resources, in other words, to offer a new service. Using the method of analysis of the web content of Croatian university libraries, we classified the contents of library web sites and services, taking into consideration the possibilities of new information technologies. The research was conducted on two occasions, in 2009 and in 2012. The research results have shown the content and the role of the new service – web sites of the university libraries, and the goals the libraries have accomplished by introducing the new service. We analyzed the role of the library as a mediator between its users and a potentially available source of information which can be provided through a web site, and which enables easier access to information, as well as the ways in which it improves the research and the use of information sources.
