Sažetak

The late 16th and early 17th century painting in Istria hasn't yet been fully explored and valorised, so we may expect that many paintings will be attributed to some already known painters and the others will help to delineate the profiles of the still unknown personalities. In this paper, we are dealing with a painting situated at the main altar of the parish church in Loborika by Moreschi, a painter that was active during the first half of the 17th century and whose work has been recently gaining a clear profile. In the second part of the paper we are discussing the works by Baldassare d' Anna in Istria stressing especially the painting in Oprtalj representing St. George, which is a very interesting transposition of the famous painting by Tintoretto situated in the National Gallery in London. The effort to tell a conceptually inteligible story at the expense of the correct perspective and convincing space representation, makes our artist (be it d' Anna or the author of the engraving or both) very near to the medieval concept of representation. In Istra there is another painting by d'Anna situated behind the main altar in the parish church in Hum. Finally, we are suggesting that a painting representing the Immaculate Conception and four Saints situated on the altar of St. Simon in the church of St. Mary Magdalen in Mutvoran may also be by d' Anna but because of the very deteriorated state of the painting it is impossible to make any definite conclusion.
