Sažetak
In this paper the author tends to answer to the question raised in the title using the results of the research aimed at understanding text through listening and concludes that the above-stated dilemma is less important in the L2 acquisition theory, since this sees listening as an interactive and dynamic process whose success is significantly dependant on teaching strategic behaviour which is to be aided by solving a wide range of tasks requiring data processing based on both bottom-up and top-down models.
