Sažetak
The author discusses the problem of global ecological ethos in modern society. He supports the survival of world and cultural plurality and co-worlds. The diverse eco-systems and cultures are interconnected. Intercultural dialogue is permanent learning and at the same time a way of common living. In every culture there are some universal values in the relationship between man and nature, relevant for shaping an ecological ethos as universal ecological wisdom.Unlike pre-modern societies and cultures, in which ethos grew out of experience, in modern society there is increasingly less direct experience, and more pressure of unknown consequences. This is a test for ecological ethos as the foundation of man’s responsibility. Accelerated changes bring more of the unknown, and decrease chances for shaping custom. The technical world brings new ethical problems and the division of responsibilities between man and institutions. It is increasingly difficult to foresee the ecological consequences of activities based on science and technology so that the “ethics of ethos” are joined by the “ethics of consequences".
