Approaches to foreign language reading

Sažetak
This paper deals with various approaches to foreign language reading. During the audiolmgual period reading was neglected in favour of spoken language skills. In the 19705 cognitive psychology made a
strong impact on reading theories. Interactive models of reading appeared in the 19805. Text comprehension involved interaction between top-down and bottom-up processing of information
represented in the schema theory stressing also the importance of linguistic and extra-linguistic knowledge.
