REGIONAL DISTRIBUTION OF LABOUR, INCOME AND PRODUCTION ON PRIVATE FARMS IN CROATIA
Eduard Hulina
Sažetak
In the absence of precise figures on the private sector of agriculture in
Croatia, which are indispensable for an advance adjustment of agricultural
production to planned targets, we have used Klatzman's method of the potentiality
curve which is regarded as one of the »rougher« methods of regional planning.
The aim was, using a few basic figures on private farming in Croatia ,to point
to the magnitudes of the optimum distribution of labour according to regions in
relation to the maximization of the value of agricultural production, the maximization
of income from agriculture, and the minimization of the total cost of
agricultural production.
The figures obtained have shown that the distribution of the active agricultural
population among the individual regions of Croatia is in fact unfavourable
in relation to the planned targets, and that the projected optimum distribution of
the value of agricultural production corresponds to the projected optimum distribution
of the active agrarian population.
Despite its drawbacks, Klatzmann’s method of the potentiality curve has
nevertheless made it possible in this particular case to lay down the principal lines
of a programme for wider regions. However, when implementing the programme
the responsible authorities of the respective region must keep account of the differences
and specific qualities existing in their particular areas.
