Research on Motivation for Learning English As a Foreign Language- A Project in Progress
Jelena Mihaljević
Sažetak
When asked to describe their motivation for learning English as a foreign language, Yugoslav leamers in this study offered motives of various types. These differed from the instrumental-integrative
dichotomy established by Lambert and Gardner. The motives of the Yugoslav leamers referred to the role of English in the modern world, to the characteristics of the English language as such, and to the teaching setting. Some of these motives were found to differ significantly in frequency with age and the smio-cultural background of the leamer.
