Sažetak

Gavella’s essay called Reflections on Aeschylus’ theater was published in 1952. In the same year, Aeschylus’ Agamemnon was set on the stage of the Croatian National Theatre (HNK), directed by Branko Gavella and Mladen Škiljan. In Gavella’s paper entitled Instead of a foreword from 1961 which is in the book called Literature and Theatre, he will, as a director and pedagogue, represent the idea of literature in theatre which he finds in every drama play in the inherently present guidelines for its stage realization.
In the spirit of his modernity, theorist, pedagogue, and director Branko Gavella expands the boundaries of the stage performance of dramatic literary text exploring the possibilities of theatrical expression in the theatre of the interaction between actors and audience, together with the director. In the poetic theater, expressive speech and movements with their versatility also actively affect the audience returning it into the frame of a creative relationship towards theater which finds its starting point in dramatic literary work.
