Sažetak
The progress of the communication technology adds a new dimension to communication. The characteristics of communication have changed and they do not equally affect all the members of a
society. They act more or less positively in various social groups. Considering the existence of those differences, the research analyzed a group of students (N=212) with regard to their Internet habits. We
focused our attention on their computer-mediated communication and the possibility that this mode of communication might replace the standard form of communication. Special attention was paid to
students with dyslexia and reading and writing problems and to the benefits they have of their use of the ICT technology, as well as to the obstacles they encounter. For this purpose, a special questionnaire on the reasons for using the Internet was constructed. The conducted study showed that the majority of students (49%) spend one hour a day on the Internet, mainly – as reported by 69% of them – to “surf the Internet”. The main reason to view a website is
that students “search for information”, while in 59% of the cases it was due to social networking and email browsing (35%). It was shown that students almost always keep social contacts personally (55%),
online (37%) and through SMS messages (31%). After a review of the collected data and the literature, the authors give some general recommendations regarding the use of the Information and
Communication technology (ICT) for students with dyslexia and reading and writing problems.
