Sažetak
Samples of a scale formed on steel blooms heated in a pusher-type furnace are investigated by optic microscopic examination and by X-ray diffraction method. The results of investigation by means of optic microscopy have shown that the scale consisted of a thinner outer layer and thicker inner layer. Thickness of the layers of the scale increases by the increase of the heating time of steel blooms. The inner layer of the scale is porous while the outer layer consisted of grain structure. By X-ray diffraction method it was found that both layers of the scale consists of FeO (wüstite), a-Fe2O3 (hematite) and Fe3O4 (magnetite). Possible reasons for the scale dropping off on the botton of the heating zone of the pusher-type furnace during heating of steel materials at temperatures of hot working were discussed.
