Sažetak
In the field survey and archaeological supervision carried out in preparation of the construction of the D-2 State Road – the southern bypass of Osijek, seven archaeological sites were documented. Two of these sites—AS 1 Josipovac-Vinogradi and the multi-layered prehistoric settlement AS 6 Osijek-Hermanov vinograd 1—had already been known. The route of the bypass, 11.2 km long, passes south of Osijek through a lowland area criss-crossed by a series of minor watercourses, along which, on slightly elevated positions, lie all the discovered sites. The rescue excavations will allow us to obtain new knowledge about the habitation of the Osijek area during all the periods, whose great intensity was favoured by its position on an important communication route leading through the valley of the Drava river. Likewise, the future broad-area rescue excavations will provide data about settlement infrastructure, and the collected finds will bear testimony to the intensity and chronological sequence of habitation.
