Sažetak

In 19th century the inhabitants of Vinišće, Veli and Mali Drvenik (Ploče) were mostly field laboures, few merchants, artisans, seamen and fishermen. Mutual weddings and relationships through being marriage witnesses and godparents were well developed. Most of the immigrants were from Trogir and the neighbouring villages in Trogirska Zagora, from the nearer mainland and islands. During that century the number of inhabitants of the studied places was increasing constantly. As the surnames of a number of the families of that period were identical they were given nicknames deriving from some human characteristics, professions, etc. A lot of these nicknames have been preserved until the present time, some were turned into surnames, while some surnames became nicknames. The presented material is a contribution to the study of the history of the anthroponymy of those places.
