Sažetak
The National Movement in 1903 lasted longer than a fortnight in Križevci and the Kalnik villages and was suppressed with difficulty by using the gendarmerie and military forces even though a lot of the insurgents were already detained. The common people requested that reforms be undertaken which would help the advancement of Croatian economy and the employment of local people in the sectors of trade, transportation and administration with the proposition that Croatian must be used in the transportation sector and tax offices despite the fact that taxes were collected by the Hungarians. The rebellion of the populace was impossible to put down from April to June of 1903, when civil governor (ban) Khuen Hédervâry left his position, because as soon as the rebellion was put down in one location, it again broke out in a different one. That is exactly what points to the fact that the rebellion was organized and had a clear idea behind it and I believe, based on Radic’s analyses of the state of the nation, that the
person responsible for that was Stjepan Radić himself. The people’s rebellion seemed disorganized due to the fact that he was arrested when the Movement started. In any case, the Movement in 1903 could be likened to a blazing fire which spread uncontrollably. The requests of the people were of economic, national and social nature and showed that the political status of Croatia under Hungary had to change, which meant that the Croatian-Hungarian Settlement had to be observed and financial relations needed to be modified.
