Sažetak

This paper is a research of Plato’s notion of the phenomenon of oblivion. What does it mean to forget? Is forgetting just a memory mistake, or is it something more for Plato, especially in relation between mortal and immortal? Using the methods of comparison and synthesis this research will show how the phenomenon of oblivion is present and developed throughout the entire Plato’s opus.

Firstly in texts anterior to Plato (among others: Homer, Simonides, Hesiod) and then in Plato’s dialogues. Through them we shall try to point out main modes of oblivion. The last part of this paper will suggest some new possibilities for accessing the phenomenon of oblivion in modern thought.
