Sažetak

Great national Churches in Europe have permeated cultures for centuries to such an extent that it seemed that the Christian culture is the only possible way of life. Today these Churches are facing a market on which they meet competition, either in religious or non-religious institutions. In this contribution the author has studied what does it mean precisely for religious organisations to lose monopoly, i.e. what does it mean to be active on a competatory market. In order to do that, the author has utilised insights of contemporary science of economy on the market mechanism and sociological research on the contemporary religious market. Since the author has determined that there are significant needs of people (hence, the emergence of the religious market), she has also provided an overview of the spiritual needs of the contemporary human being. At the end, the author gives a few concrete pastoral proposals to the Catholic Church that has obliged itself to aggiornamento at the Second Vatican Council, which follow from the previous insights about activities on the competatory market.
