PROTECTION OF NATURE EDUCATION IN SCHOOL GRADES ABOVE THE PRIMARY SCHOOLING - EXAMPLES OF HIGH SCHOOLS IN FEDERAL DISTRICT NORDRHEIN-WESTFALEN

Owing to the organisation of the state of Germany the school spectrum is very varying, there are significant differences of conditions and tuition subjects among them. Inspite the fact, there are large possibilities to organise and perform tuition with the field of protection of nature in mind, there are other forms of educational work on the field as well. These views were the result of the experiment in high schools.
The subject on which the education in the protection of nature is based is, in high schools, mainly biology, other subjects do touch on it. Apart from the subject tuition there is also the selected subject tuition and tuition in project work. The author considers the education in protection of nature to be a segment interpolated in a number of subjects, a segment of universal environment education; therefore he discusses the methods and subject-matter tuition suitable to different grades of high school education, suitable for project work tuition, and for school and external activities.
Despite the otherwise successful development of the process of education in the protection of nature, there are arising various difficulties, as e. g. overburdening of biology subject matter tuition, lack of proper knowledge and experience among educators, influence of the inhabitants on "school biotope" - gradual destruction of school gardens and other artificial forms created for the purpose of biology tuition, which has a de-motivating effect on a part of students.
