GLOBALIZATION, CIVILIZATION AND POWER

Sažetak
The text interprets the issue of a civilization in the framework of the globalization processes. Namely, it has been taking form of "a new totality" of inconstant and conflictive character, in which many "old", big and small issues of sociological views are being put forward. This also leads to a new approach to the civilization. In the history of this concept, two coherent approaches have prevailed until now: the founding, rationalistic and universalistic, dating from the turning point of the Age of Enlightment, and the pluralistic, dating from the first half of 20th century (Toynbee, Sorokin, Quigley). The latest, the third approach, that has took form during the age of globalization, represents a marked shift, even a turning point. The point in question is the turning point by which the civilization has not been considered any more as a mere concept, but as a complex of real power, being the main and active participant of the history, that determines all essential conflicts of the global epoch. In consideration of this, indicative are the theses of Norbert Elias and Fernand Braudel, but without doubt the most definite is the theory of Huntington, on the clash of civilizations.
