Sažetak

Open source software offers free access to the source code. Users have the right and possibility to modify software and adapt it to their own needs, and also the right of further distribution. There are numerous examples of open source software which can be used to improve the functioning of library work and services. For instance, VuFind is an open source replacement for the OPAC, Evergreen is interesting to larger library systems because of its functionality which can offer each library the ability to control their own settings and rules. SubjectPlus is a tool which enables libraries to create, maintain and connect different resources on their web pages, ePrints and Fedora are repository software that provide a web interface for archiving documents. Invenio is an example of an open source program which can be used to build a repository or a digital library.
