Sažetak

There are an estimated 36 to 50 million abortions performed around the world each year. While abortion is promoted as a safe and simple medical procedure, many women including those people who perform and participate in the decision to abort the unborn child, suffer from a sense of guilt and experience a psychological disorder known as post-abortion syndrome. Counselling services are available in the United States that help these people to cope with the grief and suffering they experience after an abortion. Psychotherapists, priests and trained lay counsellors work closely together in guiding post-abortion women through the process of healing. Women are encouraged to re-experience the abortion, grieve the loss of the aborted child, understand and accept God's forgiveness, forgive oneself and other people involved in the experience and finally to celebrate forgiveness in the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
