Sažetak

In the 1921-1945 period, eight Croatian translations of musicians’ biographies were published: three on Beethoven, two on Chopin, and one each on Mozart, Tchaikovsky and Musorgski. Their authors are: Marie Lipsius (pseud. La Mara), Ivan Lukaš, Romain Rolland, Marianne Westerlind, Joseph August Lux, Guy de Pourtales, and Catherine Drinker Bowen & Barbara v. Meck. Although all of them are romanticized biographies, they became a part of Croatian culturological space in a broader sense, and a part of music-historiographical and even music-educational space in the narrow sense. However, at the end of 1944 Josip Andreis drew attention to the lack of translations of musicologically relevant monographs on the prominent composers, and the Croatian public is still lacking such publications.
