PSORIASIS VULGARIS – case report

Sažetak

Psoriasis is a chronic relapsing inflammatory skin disease that affects approximately 2-3% of the population (about 125 million patients
worldwide). It is characterized by the appearance of reddish, sharply limited inflammatory foci of different sizes, covered with silvery scales,
at predilection sites (knees, elbows, hands, feet, scalp). In addition to skin the nails are almost always affected. Based on clinical features two
forms of psoriasis are distinguished, pustular and plaque (psoriasis vulgaris). Around 80% of those patients are suffering from the plaque variety, and more than 90% have a chronic course that requires
regular and continuous monitoring. The goal of treatment is individualized in order to improve the patient’s mental and physical condition, her/ his quality of life, and working ability. This paper
describes the family physicians’ role in the longterm management of those patients.
