Sažetak

In animals, plants, soil and water these compounds, by metabolic decomposition, yield ethylenethiourea (ETU) as a degradation product. Lately, ETU has been receiving attention because of its tumorigenic properties. Analyses of commercial formulations show ETU to be present as a degradation product and an impurity especially under the conditions of elevated temperature and humidity. The authors analysed 30 different products containing zineb, maneb and· mancozeb produced by seven Yugoslav manufacturers, available from agricultural shops. The most unstable were the formulations based on zineb, and the most stable ones those based on mancozeb. The ETU contents of the zineb formulations (65%, WP) were 1.5-2.5%, 1.5-2.0%, 0.8-1.5% and 0.25-0,60% after 3, 2 and 1 year and after less than 6 months respectively, The ETU content of the maneb + zineb formulations (70 + 9% WP) was 1.0% after 2 years and 0.3-0.8% after 1 year. The ETU content of the mancozeb formulations (80%, WP) after 3,2 and 1 year and after 6 months was 0.20%, and after 3 months 0.10%. The ETU in the zineb + captan formulations (37 + 45%, WP) after 3 and 2 years was detectable in traces, and in the mancozeb + copper formulations (25 + 30%, WP) BTU was not present.
