Abstract

A case of an intentional oral intoxication with a multiple lethal dose of AsepsolR (benzalkonium chloride) in a 16-year boy is described. The boy showed signs of corrosive damage of the upper parts of the alimentary canal. The observed clinical signs in the poisoned patient are correlated with the findings of other authors. The possible pathogenic mechanisms of benzalkonium chloride action and its toxicity are discussed, and the importance of early first aid measures and adequate treatment are pointed out.
